Dahn Yoga in the Media

How is Dahn Yoga different from other forms of yoga?

Dahn Yoga has many similarities to other forms of yoga. However, there are 3 key differences:

THE MASTERY AND USE OF ENERGY "Dahn" means "energy" in Korean. Energy is the life force in our bodies. It is like a bridge which connects our body to our mind. When we have a deeper understanding and experience with energy, we also have a deeper understanding of how to master our body and mind.

ENHANCING THE BODY-BRAIN CONNECTION We can transplant or live without many of our organs, but this is not true of our brain. The brain is not simply an organ of the body, but it is the centre which controls the body and its energy system. Through Dahn Yoga, individuals learn to use their brain to its full potential. When human beings learn to use their brains well, they can create harmony and peace rather than conflict and competition. This can extend beyond the individual and personal development to the whole society. Everyone wants inner peace and harmony on this earth, then why don't we have peace. Quite simply, we have not learned to use our brains well.

SELF-MANAGED, HOLISTIC HEALTH CARE From childhood, we have studied many things but many people are struggling with the basics of life... how to be healthy, happy, and peaceful. Dahn Yoga is not just a physical practice but provides tools for managing your daily life. In particular, it helps to improve emotional stability, physical health, as well as the quality of social interaction and communication skills. It is also helpful for correcting unhealthy habits, such as smoking or overeating.

Origins of Dahn Yoga

Dahn Yoga originates from Korean history. Several thousand years ago, it began as a training method for the Korean people to maintain their physical health and to actualize their potential as human beings. These training methods were practised everyday and passed down to subsequent generations from wise teachers or masters.

In 1985, Ilchi Lee created a modernized version of these ancient principles and trainings known today as Dahn Yoga. Since that time, the program has expanded throughout the world with more than 600 centres offering Dahn Yoga to more than 200,000 active members. The tradition of these ancient training methods continues today in thousands of public parks, schools, community centres, and university campuses in Korea, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and several other countries.
